The Gamut

By now, everyone is aware that VP Cheney was involved in a hunting accident negligence incident. I'm not sure of what the law is in Texas, but one thing strikes me as strange. Apparently the only reason the press knew about this story was that they were informed 18 hours later by the owner of the property. But shouldn't there have been a police report? Also, shouldn't the hospital have informed the police when the injured man was brought in? Isn't that the standard policy? Isn't this information regularly available to the press in the daily happenings?

UPDATE: Apparently, the law was notified. Which frankly makes it even stranger that the press was not.
