Costume Party

Eschaton: Hoodies
So, anyone else planning to go vote in their black hoodie?
Atrios is referring to the Eminem video for Mosh. But before you decide to go as part of the army for change in Georgia, think carefully:
Kevin Dodds also was charged with the seldom-invoked crime of wearing a mask. A Georgia law aimed at the Ku Klux Klan makes it illegal to wear masks except on "holidays and special occasions."
I don't know. I always thought the day you voted was a special day.

My Tyrant is Better Than Your Tyrant

I just figured something out. First, a couple of facts. The government estimates that Hussein was responsible for somewhere around 300,000 innocent Iraqi deaths during his reign of terror. And a new report just out estimates that this war has caused about 100,000 additional Iraqi deaths that would not have happened but for the invasion. The invasion is 18 months old. Hussein was in power for over 20 years.

Doing some simple calculations, George Bush is responsible for four times as many unneeded Iraqi deaths per month as Saddam Hussein.

Th-Th-That's All FO(IA)lks

Well, it’s official. I will not be getting an answer to my FOIA request before the election. It bounced from the Air Force, to the Pentagon, and now the Pentagon is bouncing it back to the Air Force. I spoke on the phone with several exasperated FOIA contractors, all of whom were very helpful but also seemed quite impotent.

Eventually, I will get my response, probably halfway into the first Kerry term. When I do, I’ll post it, but by then who will care? All that it will be good for by then is accelerating Bush’s descent into shamed legacy.

But don’t get me wrong. I’m not accusing anyone of willful delay. I blame nothing more than bureaucracy.

Lite Blogging

There's a hole in my heart the size of George Bush's resume of failures. Not a literal hole, but a metaphorical and personal one. I won't be bloging much until I get some issues resolved. But I will be continuing to follow up on my FOIA request. I called the Pentagon the other day and spoke with a very nice gentleman who is a civilian in the office in charge of my request. I had to explain to him what it was I wanted. He had never heard of DD Form 258 and had no idea why it might be relevent. He pulled up the pdf while I was on the phone with him to see the notation that Bush's 258 is avaiable on request. He said it looks like an 8 to him, but that then-again now-that-you-mention-it it could be a 6. He's looking specifically into that. He's trying to get hold of the original. I hope to know for sure by Wednesday.
